| A New England Prep School Football League |
| Playoffs In the remaining play-off games, schools that have not played each other during the season will be scheduled as best is possible in accordance with division standings. (To play a new team, sometimes a sixth place finisher may have to play a fifth or fourth place finisher.) There could be some exceptions to this policy to ensure a competitive contest. Following are some considerations that may affect playoff scheduling: 1. If due to the complexity of league scheduling, a traditional game between a South and North opponent has been dropped, those two teams may request to play one another in the playoffs. Obviously, if one of the teams finished first in its division, such a match-up would not be possible. 2. If a ""rematch game"" is scheduled as a playoff game, both schools will have to agree to the game. Rematch games might occur if the organizing committee in its efforts to establish a game of teams that have not played each other in the regular season ends up with a high seed playing a much lower seed. ( For example - a 2 seed vs a 6 or 7 seed. ) In odd years, the Southern Division will host the playoff game; and in even years, the Northern Division will host the playoff game. Division Standings A team's win-loss record within the division will be used to establish standings. Tiebreakers 1) Head to head game winner breaks the tie. 2) Use a rating format within each Division: each win is worth 10 points and the winning team earns an additional two points for each win of its opponent within the division. (Ties are half the value.) 3) Results against mutual opponent(s) in the other division; not scores. 4) Use the rating format of these teams in all league play. 5) Let the teams in the division vote for the best representative. 6) If all else fails, coin flip. |
